heritage

noun

her·i·tage | \ˈle-gə-sē \
a preservation of tradition and cultural
values that form our identity.

The Heritage Project encourages people of the Black Diaspora to remember those who came before - our ancestors. For many of us, not only are we are the products of centuries of struggle, trauma, and pain, but we are also the manifestation of collective dreams - Black children who would grow up to be free, and opulent and all they did. However, in the 21st century as we find ourselves in the crossroads of a manifested dream, dual identities, and oppressive systems, how do we find a middle ground in remembering, reflecting and recreating?

The Heritage Project gives people of the Black Diaspora the space to unpack through an artistic medium - an intimate and reflective photo series and documentary video. Through this medium we encourage our participants to ponder and genuinely reflect on the following questions:

What legacy did your ancestors leave behind?

How are you creating/embodying your legacy?

What do you want to be remembered for?

With this series, we hope to inspire Black millennials to be intentional about their choices and to keep in mind that just like their ancestors, every decision they make will impact generations to come.
